EXO subunit ChenBaekXi (Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin), who are currently in a contractual dispute with SM Entertainment (SM), have reiterated their willingness to reach a settlement and rejoin group activities.
On the 30th, INB100, ChenBaekXi’s agency, stated,
“ChenBaekXi remain committed to paying 10% of their revenue as agreed. Since the lawsuit is still ongoing, they plan to fulfill the agreement once a settlement is reached and the legal procedures are concluded.”
Earlier, on the 29th, SM claimed that ChenBaekXi had failed to pay the 10% of personal activity revenue stipulated in the June 18, 2023 agreement. SM also pointed out that despite ChenBaekXi’s claim of having accepted all terms proposed by SM after the second mediation session on October 2, the trio had actually filed an objection on October 16.
In response, ChenBaekXi’s side explained,
“Around the time of the court’s mediation session, we informed SM of our intention to pay 10% of personal activity revenue and were awaiting their final response. The amount suggested by the mediation committee on October 2 was arbitrarily determined and unrelated to the terms agreed upon by both parties, which is why neither side could accept it. Once that amount was formally delivered in writing, both parties filed objections on October 16.”
They added,
“All discussions have been conducted on the premise of EXO’s full-group activities. ChenBaekXi have made clear their intention to uphold the original agreement, have been in direct communication with the members, and have continued efforts to remain part of the team. The recent procedures are standard protocol, and claims that ChenBaekXi have no intention to settle are untrue. They will sincerely carry out the original agreement and do their best to restore trust among members and reach an amicable resolution with SM.”
Meanwhile, EXO is planning to release their 8th full-length album in the first quarter of next year, marking about two and a half years since their previous album “EXIST” (2023). However, due to the ongoing legal dispute, the comeback will proceed with six members — Suho, Chanyeol, Kai, and Sehun (under SM), along with D.O. (now under his independent label SOOSOO Company) and Lay, the group’s Chinese member.
