The “young creator crew” CORTIS is unveiling a documentary that captures the making of their debut album.

Premiering at 8 p.m. on September 1 through HYBE Labels’ YouTube channel, the documentary What We Want follows CORTIS (Martin, James, Joohoon, Sunghyun, and Gunho) on their journey to discover “our own music” while working on their debut album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES. The film unfolds mainly around the songwriting camp they held in Los Angeles, chronicling the members’ struggles leading up to the creation of their title track What You Want.

At their debut-day media showcase, CORTIS candidly revealed: “We went to Los Angeles for a songwriting camp to work on the title track. At first, we planned to stay for a month, but since things didn’t go smoothly, it ended up lasting three months.” Curiosity is rising over what process gave birth to the title song that has become “the face of CORTIS.”

The documentary also offers the fun of watching the crew co-create not only music but also choreography and video content. Particularly noteworthy is their collaborative creative process, which is somewhat rare among K-pop groups. Despite all being in their teens, they showcase not only impressive artistic abilities but also a willingness to speak up with concrete ideas and actively seize opportunities.

Beyond the music-making, the film depicts how five members from different backgrounds—including a former swimmer and a former child model—come together as one team through the common thread of “creation.” Filmed over more than a year, from April of last year to May of this year, the documentary captures the members’ daily lives with raw authenticity. It promises to reveal not only their youthful passion and drive but also the trial-and-error journey of finding CORTIS’s own music during the making of their debut album.
