Girl group VVS has released their first album just one month after their debut.
VVS released their first mini-album ‘D.I.M.M (Diamonds In My Mouth)’ at 6 PM on May 19th. This follows the release of their debut single ‘TEA’ on April 22nd and the single ‘Purrfect’ on May 9th, marking a rapid pace of activity. The title track, sharing the album’s name ‘D.I.M.M,’ leads with a powerful hip-hop sound, paying homage to legendary American hip-hop DJ and producer DJ Screw. The members’ striking diamond grills, revealed in previously released teaser videos, are also part of this homage. The concept photos, emphasizing this aesthetic, demonstrate a move closer to the roots of hip-hop, exceeding the boundaries of typical K-pop girl groups.
The music features a heavy 808 drum beat, synth bass, chopped vocals, and a continuous stream of rap punchlines for four minutes. Above all, ‘D.I.M.M’ is a song filled with VVS’s pursuit of a hip-hop identity and brimming with confidence. The seamless switching between English and Korean rapping is also noteworthy. The teaser videos offered a glimpse of a highly anticipated and visually striking performance.
VVS is the first girl group produced by the multinational label MZMC. Members Britney, Ailey, Lana, Jiwoo, and Liwon are described as five top-tier gems, poised to change the texture of K-pop. The album ‘D.I.M.M’ symbolizes the direction of VVS’s music and the beginning of their journey, encompassing the members’ growth stories, future aspirations, and respect for hip-hop.
